This has Michelle Cliff’s “Spirit of a Place,” Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet,” Danez Smith’s “I’m going back to Minnesota where Sadness Makes Sense,” Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese,” Rilke’s letter to Lou Andreas-Salomé, Rilke’s “Turning,” a 1950s essay from Beauvoir, Elizabeth Bishop’s draft of “One Art,” Ken Liu’s “The Paper Menagerie,” Denise Levertov’s “February Evening in New York,” and Mary Oliver’s “How I go into the Woods.”

I’m not putting my analysis of these poems here, since my analysis feels ogre-ish and personal. I liked these, and felt as though some of the pictures resonated with the excerpts. There is a mix of winter and warmth, of forcing and unforcing, of seeing and percieving, of loss and life.

I notice the consumption of art more while I am in Oxford because it is distinctively not my subject (math/cs) and it makes it feel more intentional.
